Reaching Out
Since 1989 Chef Jerry has been reaching out to the homeless by providing and using his God given gift to serve the needy in the downtown Dallas metroplex. Not only does Chef Jerry prepare meals every Tuesday with Southwest Harvest Church, but he also prepares meals for the kids and parents at the Ronald McDonald House each month. If you have any old clothes or want to make a donation to the homeless ministry, please email Chef Jerry at Info@CookingWithChefJerry.net God Bless.
Now taking all unwanted stoves, freezers, refrigerators, old unwanted metal chairs and any other metal junk to be used for serving and clothing the homeless. Just call us at 972.313.7663 for pick up. From the Dallas/For Worth Heritage Once a week the Southwest Harvest church bus rolls toward downtown Dallas to feed the homeless. Rookie Christian soldiers, a little nervous, hoping that what we learned in Basic Training, AKA church, would equip us adequately for this mission. Chef Jerry, a real executive chef, serves only the finest menus at our make-shift restaurant (2 tables in a parking lot.) Our customers are very faithful every Tuesday night, lining up very promptly as the white van pulls in. Interesting characters with stories that I have, up until now, only seen on television dramas. Chester, 28, has been on the streets since he was 15. His mother is a drug addict and he doesn't know his father. A year or more of conversations, prayer, and Jerry's gourmet cooking has made us closer friends. A little encouragement and he went back to school and got his GED. He is looking for a school to get culinary training now. In winter, we bring coats. In summer, we bring ice water. It was easier when they were strangers. Now they call us by name, hug us, tell us they love us, and they do. |
